I saw your performance on Sunday the 14th at the La Cité Francophone in Edmonton and it was terrific, a very close adaptation! Kafka’s message of the value society places on economic progress and work ethic over the value of individuals definitely shone through. All the actors admirably handled the dynamic scenes, which revolved fluidly because there were minimal cumbersome props. Also well done was the innovative way by which the cast worked together to present the narration. Nikolai Witschl was a great choice for Gregor, so expressive and nimble. He really conveys that he is a cockroach — and with that lean body, he even looks segmented! Stuart Hoye was also amusing and managed to surprise the audience with new characters simply by walking to the other end of the stage and using a new voice. Chelsea Preston’s handling of her brother’s alteration and his visions was nicely achieved. Porter and Stubbings were quite believable in their roles as parents as well, demonstrating that once their son could not support the family, his worth quickly precipitated until their abandonment of him coincided with Gregor’s demise. Kafka’s Metamorphosis was an all around gem, and I’ve recommended it to others. Thanks for bringing a classic to Fringe!
Thanks Jared! I will share the comments with the cast.
